Russia’s investment in US Treasuries including bills and bonds reached about $ 12 billion in May, its lowest level in 12 years, Russian news channel reported.

The channel said on its website Wednesday that the US Treasury data indicate that Russia’s investments in US bonds declined in the previous month by more than $ 100 million.

During the past two years, the Russian government has reduced its investments in US government bonds, once a major investor in these bonds. Last year, Moscow cut investments from $ 96.9 billion in January to $ 13.2 billion in December, Investments in 12 months have been reduced by $ 81 billion.

Despite the tumultuous trade war, China remains the largest holder of US Treasuries with an investment of $ 1.11 trillion last May. Beijing, which is the second largest holder of US bonds, raised investments to $ 1.101 trillion, the highest level in almost two years.
