Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday he had informed US President Donald Trump in advance of what Israel described as an intelligence mission in Tehran last year to seize secret Iranian nuclear documents.

In April 2018, Netanyahu announced that a Mossad team had succeeded in seizing thousands of secret documents from Iran, which proved Iran’s past use of a nuclear weapons program. Trump relied on those documents when he made a decision the following month to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal in 2015.

Iran denies it has sought nuclear weapons before and accused Israel of fabricating Tehran’s mission and secret documents.

Netanyahu, while giving Israel’s National Security Award Tuesday to the Mossad team that seized the documents, said he discussed the operation with Trump before it was implemented when he met with him at the Davos forum in January 2018.
