Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov confirmed that Russia will fully implement the project to modernize the Iranian nuclear facility at “Fordow”, which was recently suspended for technical reasons, according to the Russian news agency.

“We have now taken a pause, we have not abandoned the project, and we will implement it fully”, Ryabkov told reporters, noting that Russia will need time to respond to the new conditions from Iran’s pumping of gases into centrifuges at “Fordow” and the imposition of new sanctions by the United States on This facility is effective from December 15.

He added: “The issue of the project in Fordow is very huge, and was raised in the words of the representatives of Iran and China (during a meeting on the Iranian nuclear deal). The central, located at the same place where the stable isotope production restructuring was supposed to take place, goes against the option originally developed for the restructuring of the Fordow facility. Russia will need some time to assess the consequences of this, and possibly to develop specific technological solutions. But this will inevitably be fraught with delay”.

On the other hand, the United States had previously announced that the sanctions would be returned to the Fordow facility starting on December 15. “We must understand the risks that may be associated with the continuation of this project”, Ryabkov said.
