The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Sunday its commitment to further develop the multi-faceted strategic partnership with South Africa after the announcement of the general election results in the country.

“Moscow expresses its strong commitment to further develop its strategic partnership with South Africa in the areas of politics, trade, investment and humanitarian fields, as well as its continued focus on effective coordination of steps within the United Nations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry noted that a group of foreign experts had monitored South Africa’s general elections, including a representative of the Central Election Commission of Russia.

South Africa held a general election on May 8, won by the ruling African National Congress (ANC) with 57.50 percent of the vote.
