“Many major events in our internal political life were accompanied by an intensification of hacker attacks on Russian state resources,” Zakharova said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, noting that an increase in piracy activity could not be ruled out.

“During the vote on amending the constitution in the summer of last year, there were widespread attacks from abroad on the vital infrastructure of the Central Election Commission and state organs,” she added.

She added, “These attacks did not affect in any way the voting, and will not affect the upcoming electoral process or its final result.”

The Russian National Coordination Center for Computer Incidents had earlier warned of the risks of cyber attacks by the United States and its allies on Russia’s vital information infrastructure, advising Russian institutions to take measures to protect their resources and information.
