Saudi Arabia has officially announced to open visit visa with dress code relaxation for the foreign tourists in public places. The head of tourism Ahmed al-Khateeb said in a statement on Friday.
The visit visa move will further open the Islamic kingdom to the foreign tourists as part of reviving the economy in the sector.
Serious efforts have been made by the Saudi government to diversify its economy away from petroleum products to the tourism.
Saudi Arabia besides opening tourism visa, has also announced to relax dress code for the foreign female tourists, now they are not required to wear (Abayas) in public places.
“We are making history today”, Ahmed al-Khateeb, head of Saudi Arabian tourism, said in a statement.
“For the first time, we will open our country to tourists from all over the world”, al-Khateeb added.
With the opening of the tourism door on Saudi Arabia, citizens from 49 countries will be entitled to get online visas at the arrival, including citizens of the United States, Australia and a number of European countries.
The tourism program has become one of the Vision 2030 reform programs of the Crown Prince Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, in preparing his country’s economy for the post-oil era.
Saudi Arabia, a key destination of Muslim pilgrims of Umrah and Hajj in holy sites of Makkah and Madinah.
Tourism authorities remain firm that Saudi Arabia will not allow alcohol, but Khateeb says there are no restrictions on foreign female tourists who are not accompanied and are not required to wear abayas in public places.
Previously, visas for foreigners who wanted to visit Saudi Arabia limited to foreign workers and their families, as well as Muslim pilgrims who want to make a pilgrimage to the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah, or for pilgrimage and pilgrimage.
