“They know that, as far as I know, it is not being thought of,” the official said, adding to the questions about a period of gradual withdrawal the procurement is ultimately left to the State Department” official said.

The US president decided earlier to end the exemptions, which allowed eight countries to buy Iranian oil, with the aim of achieving zero exports of crude from this country, which allowed exemptions for those countries limited purchases of Iranian oil for 6 months.

The United States re-imposed sanctions in November 2018 on Iranian oil exports, after Trump withdrew from the nuclear agreement concluded in 2015 between Tehran and six major world powers.

Washington has granted temporary exemptions to eight major oil importers – China, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, Italy and Greece from May 2, they will face US sanctions if they continue to buy Iranian oil.
