UN Secretary General expresses grave concerns over humanitarian situation in Jammu and Kashmir

Antonio Guterres has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation in Jammu and Kashmir following India’s decision to cancel its special status.

UN Secretary-General stressed that the UN position on the settlement of the Kashmir dispute is subject to its charter and the implementation of Security Council resolutions, calling on all parties to avoid taking steps that could affect the situation of Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing concern over reports of arrests that could worsen the humanitarian situation in disputed region, the UN chief’s spokesman said the secretary-general was following up the situation in occupied Kashmir and appeals to the two neighboring countries to ensure that the situation in the region does not deteriorate.
