The British government said it would contribute GBP10 million to help deal with fires and restore the condition of the Amazon forest in Brazil. The incident attracted the attention of the world and made the Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, mocked for being held responsible.

“In this week we see the Amazon rainforest burning, and we cannot escape the reality of contributing to the destruction of nature,” said British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Biarritz.

According to Johnson, this incident should be a whip so that the world community intervened to deal with environmental issues.

“We cannot stop climate change without protecting the environment, and we cannot restore natural conditions without counteracting climate change,” Johnson said.

The collection of donations was initiated by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. He said he would help countries experiencing forest and land fires.

However, Macron’s move to include discussions of the Amazon forest fires instead angered Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro reasoned against foreign interference and regarded Macron’s move as a form of colonial mental inheritance.

About 60 percent of the Amazon rainforest is indeed in Brazil. The remainder entered Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.

Bolivian President Evo Morales said he would accept international assistance to fight raging forest fires in the southeast of the country and suspend his presidential election campaign to deal with the crisis.

Recently, 44,000 Brazilian troops were deployed to limit Amazon fires. According to Brazil media, Azevedo explained that the army forces will conduct unprecedented operations to control the fire in the Amazon forests in response to the requests of the six states (Rorma – Rondania – Para – Tocantins – Aker – Mato Grosso).

The Brazilian Minister of Defense also indicated the participation of two aircraft “Hercules 130” in extinguishing these fires, where each aircraft can throw about 12 thousand liters of water on the fires.
