On Wednesday, the Vietnamese authorities ordered the evacuation of thousands of people in the center of the country due to the imminent arrival of Typhoon Goni, which weakened after the death of at least 20 people in the Philippines.

Typhoon Goni, which is the tenth hurricane to hit the coast of Vietnam this year, is advancing in the South China Sea towards the center and south of the country, where it will reach Thursday with winds of up to 90 km per hour, according to the Met Office in Vietnam.

Authorities in the affected provinces prevented ships from leaving for fishing, closed beaches to tourists, and began evacuating at least 20,000 people in areas at risk of landslides, according to the “FNA Express” website.

The typhoon affected again some of the worst-affected areas last October, when 235 people were killed in four successive typhoons, the last of which was Cyclone (Mulavi), which last week killed at least 39 people and left 44 missings, according to the Vietnam Disaster Management Center.
