The President of the World Economic Forum, Borg Brend, said in an email today that the forum will be held in Singapore instead of Switzerland next year, as the Covid-19 pandemic will make it difficult to ensure the health and safety of participants in Europe.

“The board took a very important decision today to move the 2021 Special Annual Meeting to Singapore (May 13-16),” Brend said in the letter.

We were expecting to organize our 2021 annual meeting in Lucerne-Bürgenstock this spring. Unfortunately, the current situation of COVID-19 in Europe makes it unlikely that we will be able to create the necessary conditions to ensure the health and safety of our employees, participants, and the wider community,” he added.

Singapore is successful in dealing with the pandemic,” he said.

He added that the partners would be notified later in the day and a press release would be issued on Tuesday.
