A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Yunnan Province in the southwest, killing three people and injuring 27.
The China Seismic Network Center said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 8 km and was followed by aftershocks.
In all, 192 houses collapsed and another 13,000 homes sustained structural damage.
More than 20,000 people had to be evacuated from the mountainous areas.
